A Message of Hope: Janesville CSD Welcomes Emma Benoit
/At Janesville CSD, we believe supporting our students goes far beyond the classroom—it means caring for their well-being and mental health. We were honored to host Emma Benoit, a powerful advocate for mental health awareness, as she shared her deeply personal journey with our community. This experience was made possible by the non-profit organization, Alive and Running Iowa. The organization brought Emma to Iowa to share her story with local schools and community organizations. We were fortunate to be one of the schools she came to visit.
Emma’s story is one of incredible resilience. After surviving a suicide attempt that left her paralyzed, she dedicated her life to sharing her struggles to ensure that no one else feels they have to face their darkest moments alone.
Emma’s presence reminded us that mental health is just as important as physical health. By sharing the "raw" and "real" parts of her life, she helped humanize a struggle that many people—especially young people—often carry in silence. Her advocacy encourages us all to check in on one another and to remember that it is okay to ask for help.
The core of Emma’s message aligns with our mission to build a supportive community where every individual feels heard and valued. As Emma shared with our students:
"Every stage is a reminder: your story isn’t over, your voice matters, and hope is always possible."
We are so grateful to Emma for her courage and for reminding us that even in our toughest chapters, there is a way forward. This event is part of our ongoing commitment to fostering an environment where mental health is a priority and where every student knows they have a seat at the table.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out to a counselor, a trusted adult, or use the many digital resources available today to find the support you deserve.
Remember: Your story is still being written.
